For the the first time in a long time, Deputy President William Ruto has appeared to agree with his political rival Raila Odinga on the issue of political law.
Dr Ruto has backed Mr Odinga’s statement that a bill aimed at outlawing the ‘huslter’ slogan is not appropriate.
Through a message on his Twitter account, Dr Ruto said he agrees with Mr Odinga’s move to defend freedom of expression protected by the Constitution
However, the Deputy President disagreed with Mr Odinga that the use of the slogan ‘mahustler’ could lead to class divisions and violence in the country.
The Deputy President made the remarks just hours after Mr Odinga warned lawmakers against passing a bill outlawing the use of the slogan that has been used by Dr Ruto and his entourage in their campaign rallies.
The Parliamentary Committee on Security has indicated that it will introduce a bill to curb the use of the theme, which is feared could provoke violence between poor and rich Kenyans.
