Manchester City Striker Sergio Kun Aguero has agreed a deal with Barcelona who will now sign him on a two-year deal at the end of the 2020-21 season.
Aguero, 32, will leave Etihad at no cost after his current contract with Man-City officially expires at the end of this term. The Argentine star has scored 258 goals for Man-City in 388 matches.
Although Barcelona have unveiled a plan to reduce spending, they have been persuaded to take Aguero’s services in the hope that he will work closely with Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann in their front line.
Aguero, who currently ranks fourth in the list of all-time leading scorers in Premier League (EPL) football, is a close friend of Messi who has been associated with him in the Argentina national team. Hence, many see Kun’s singing as a strategy to change the mind of Messi who has hinted of leaving Barca at the end of the season.
Barcelona have registered mixed results in this season’s campaign under Dutch coach Ronald Koeman. They were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, won the Copa del Rey title and are currently third in the Spanish La Liga table. The four-point gap dominates between them and leaders Atletico Madrid who are at the top with 80 points. They are also two points behind second-placed Real Madrid.
Barcelona have also unveiled a list of six footballers that coach Koeman has recommended they sign at the end of this season.
While the club’s new president, Joan Laporta, is optimistic that Messi will extend his contract at the Camp Nou, the captain has admitted that they need to rebuild themselves for the coming seasons.
How much will Aguero earn?
Aguero will be 33-years old in June. However, sources say he is willing to reduce his salary in exchange for a sign-on bonus, given that he would be a “free” transfer.
All eyes are now set on the trio’s partnership especially in the forthcoming UEFA competition.
