Dan Akumu, a Luo man who broke up with his lover after she decided to return to her ex-lover, has succumbed to depression, sources allege.
Dan Joseph Akumu, from Kisumu, who was always described as “bright’ and “intelligent” by his highschool classmates, died on February 6th in Juba where he was working.
“It is true Dan Akumu is no more, He passed on Jana in Juba out of depression as its being alleged,” confirmed Lilyanne Aketch on her Facebook account.
“R.i.p dan joseph akumu wuod kisumu obambo… Wuod kanyawegi…you left an indelible mark at st Marks Obambo secondary school,” posted his schoolmate Joshua Caxton.
In 2021, Dan found himself in the limelight after a popular Luo Facebook blogger, Profesa ochieng Odongo, accused him of staying with his “baby mama” Sophie Achieng and denying him the chance to see his son.
Odongo, annoyed, took to his Facebook account to call out Okumu, including accusing him of being buoch (luo word to mean impotent).
“I cannot give birth for other men and you proceed to deny me access to my own CHILD…CALL me anything, an neokaloko DAN BUOCH,” Ranted Maxwell.

Many have since taken to social media to condole with the family, some blaming Sophie for sharing Dan’s bedroom weakness in the public and later abandoning him for the same ex-lover.
“The person whom Dan believed in, Loved and thought that will stand with him during that period went back to the person whom bullied him…That’s what hit him most,” Added Lilian. “Jowadu I am pained because the Women I always defend here out of my good heart have disappointed me one way or the other…Nimenawa mkono.”
“It’s long since I met you and through all you have gone through it could be my wish you enjoy your sweat after God had open your. So painful to hear that your no more, Go! Go! Go in peace Dan Joseph Akumu. RIP” shared Jatelo Wuod Gem.
Jarunda, “RIP Akumu Dan Joseph. Depression is real.”
