Mirerani, Tanzania: A riot broke out at Endiamtu Primary School in Mirerani, small town in Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, shortly after an ambulance arrived leading to pupils fleeing to their homes for fear of getting Covid-19 Vaccine.
More than 30 parents and guardians with children at the school arrived immediately after receiving news that there were plans to administer corona vaccine to their children.
However, speaking to the parents on Friday July 30 at 3pm, the school’s headmaster Evetha Kyara dismissed the claims.
Teacher Kyara told them doctors at Mirerani Health Center only went to provide Corona and Hepatitis education to all pupils at the school and not corona vaccine.
He added that as they have been doing every year, the doctors arrived at the school to educate both teachers and pupils and then left.
“When pupils saw the car and the doctors dressed in white gowns, some panicked and ran to their homes thinking they were getting a corona vaccine,” Said teacher Kyara.
He also said pupils in kindergarten, class one and two were the most frightened to an extent of running away while screaming thus causing chaos at the school.
One of the school’s parents, Baltazari Massawe, said he had received information that there was riot at the school against the vaccine hence his prompt arrival.
(I have a fifth grader named Nancy Massawe so I came to the school immediately but it was misinformation that was being circulated and there was no corona vaccine being given).
