Nairobi-based Congolese Gospel music recording artist and performer Bibile Dorcas Kaponda has died.
The Gospel musician perished in a road accident that occurred on May 9, 2020 at 11.30a.m along Baba Dogo-Luckysummer road in Nairobi, the late’s friend confirmed.
The deceased was famed for songs such as Uko Mwema Yesu and Yesu Anakujua, songs that have received airplay on several media stations across the country, especially on Citizen TV and Hope TV.
According to one of her church members, Kaponda was travelling to her church, Neema Great Worship Church (NGWC), a Pentecostal church located in Ruaraka’s Baba Dogo Area, Nairobi, for Sunday service when the fatal accident that claimed her life occurred.
The vocalist, who has provided an astounding backup to many musicians during their recordings, thanks to her melancholic tone, is the only person who died during the fatal ordeal.
Speaking to Silvan News shortly after the tragic incident, a passer-by who was at the scene when it occurred narrated that Kaponda was on a motorcycle when her cyclist collided with a vehicle and lost control at Power, an area few meters from Baba Dogo.
“A vehicle had been stuck at the scene and on Sunday morning, attempts were being made to unstuck it. However, when the cyclist carrying the artist drew near, the lorry had been pulled out and driver was trying to move. The motorcyclist, caught unawares, lost control leading to the fatal collision” he added.
While the gospel minister died on the spot, eye witnesses say the motorcyclist survived unhurt. It has not yet been established whether he suffered internal injuries or not.
Shortly after the singer’s demise, a sombre mood engulfed her fellow church members, friends, relatives and fans, many turning out in large numbers at the accident scene to confirm that indeed their artist was no more.
Many, also crushed and perplexed, including her fans, took to their social media handles to mourn and celebrate her astounding impact in the gospel industry.
Gospel Artist Tumaini Akilimali of hit songs Umenibeba and Nisizame took to his Facebook account to eulogize Dorcas, flashbacking on their time together at his studio and how she supported him.
“IT’S SO PAINFUL TO LOOSE A YOUNG MINISTER LIKE YOU Dorcas Pricile NOW NANI ATANIFANYIA BACK UP TENA VILE ILIFANYA UMENIBEBA SONG NA UMEENDA,SO YESTERDAY NDIO ILIKUWA IWE YA MWISHI MIMI KUKUONA ..OOOH MY GOD HAVE MERCY ON ME, WHAT IS THIS SURELY, I WISH U CAN WAKE UP AGAIN…RIP MY SISTER,” posted Tumaini.

Pumzika kwa amani Dada Dorcas Pricile, (I have lost a friend, a sister we have comforted each other so much in our ministry. In normal life too, we loved each other’s progress.)” mourned artist Chris Mbarikiwa.

Until her demise, the artist was still single. Sources say she had already begun plans to settle down hopefully in 2022.
Plans are already underway to give Kaponda a befitting send-off. However, since she hails from Congo, it is not yet clear whether she will be buried in Kenya or Congo.
