Senegalese Sadio Mane is the 2019 Confederation of African Football (CAF) player of the year.
In what many consider a typically humble and gracious speech, Mane
thanked everyone who had contributed towards his success;
“It is a bigday for me and I would love to thank all the Senegalese people who have been voting for me. I’m from a very small village called Bambali and I’m sure they are all watching me tonight.”
The speedster who is currently considered one of the best players in the world, edged his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah and Algerian cum Manchester city attacker Riyad Mahrez to win this prestigious award. Salah had initially won it twice, in 2017 and 2018.
Besides helping his country reach the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Final, Mane scored an impressive 32 goals in 53 appearances for Liverpool last year.
