Four aspirants for Kisumu gubernatorial race have jointly endorsed Former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura to face off with Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o during the County’s August mano-a-mano.
Former Governor Jack Ranungo Ranguma, former Kisumu County assembly speaker Onyango Oloo, Senator Fred Outa and former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura made public this agreement in a rally held at Kisumu Town on Friday evening.
In a resolution read by Outa on behalf of the other aspirants, the team poked holes on Nyong’o’s current administration before declaring their candidate.
“We have shelved our political ambitions to produce one candidate that will square it out in the ODM party primaries under the Azimio la Umoja,” read Outa. “Kisumu people now it is my turn to unveil the candidate who is going to carry our flag for the ODM Party nominations.”
“Five of us had a consensus and agreed that the person is going to carry the flag is none other than Ken Obura,” He confirmed the endorsement.
Obura’s endorsement was welcomed by cheers and dances from thousands of Kisumu electorates who had gathered to witness the event.
With Obura, Ranguma and Outa hailing from Kano, the biggest clan in Kisumu County and vote-rich, and Oloo being a resident of Kisumu East, sources say the team’s plan of rallying behind Ken Obura is to ensure they curtail Nyong’o possibility of winning his second term.
Speaking on possibility of Nyong’o rigging the nominations, Outa confirmed, stating that Obura is their plan A. They have Plan B waiting in store, he added.
Shortly afterwards, Outa took to his Facebook page to thank Kisumu electorates and confirmed that indeed Obura is their plan A.
“Asanteni sana KISUMU COUNTY electorates our plan A is out : Ken Obura tano Fresh in Odm ticket,” he posted.
